There are so many things to do in Darwin. I have been a regular visitor and have created a 4+ days itinerary suitable for all ages.
Darwin can also make a great stopover on the way to Asia. I have used it as a stopover to Singapore but there are other destinations to consider. While many people like Cairns at this time of the year my preference is Darwin
The best time to visit is in winter when the mornings are cool and it hots up during the day. I really enjoy cooling off in either the Darwin waterfront area or nearby Berry Springs.

The waterfront area is a great place to stay, a relaxing park with shady trees and a swimming area protected from stingers, crocs and sharks.
4 Day Darwin Sightseeing
Day 1: Arrive in Darwin. Qantas has flights that arrive in time for a 2pm check in and a relaxing afternoon in the swimming area. I suggest a Thursday arrival. You can either enjoy the happy hours at the bars downstairs or walk over to Stokes Wharf for dinner.
Day 2: Go fishing but make sure you go find someone who knows his stuff. There are a lot of amateurs out there. We used Rohan at Top End Barra Fishing. We were a group of three rank amateurs and had a wonderful day. Left at 7am and arrived home by 3:30pm satisfied and exhausted. The good thing is we saw crocodiles on the banks as we fished so ticked that box as well.
Tip: Ask Rohan to set some crab traps so you can enjoy a home cooked dinner
Day 3: Stay in Town got to Parap Village Markets, have some wonderful fresh produce. Buy some indigenous crafts or a cane toad purse. In the afternoon learn about the bombing of Darwin. There are two great sites to visit the Darwin Military Museum or the WWII Oil Storage Tunnels.
Day 4: It’s Sunday and it’s going to be a long day. Head out of town again. This time to Litchfield National Park and the wonderful (crocodile free) swimming holes. On the way home stop at the famous Magnetic Termite Mounds for a picture next to some of the biggest Termite Mounds in the world.
Make sure you visit Mindil Beach Markets for Sunset. The food is meh but the sunset is superb.
Day 5: Time to go home but as the flights leave after lunch you have time to visit Berry Springs or Territory Wildlife Park. Berry Springs is mini version of Litchfield and as its Monday wont be so crowded. Before heading to the airport visit Crazy Acres Mango Farm. I bought delicious local honey, it just tastes different. While it is rustic the food was good and the frozen mango cooling
We stayed as a group of six at Darwin Luxury Waterfront Suites for the second year in a row. While you can book on AirBnb it is cheaper to book direct. There are a number of bars and restaurants below, many with happy hour between 3 and 6pm.
Tip: Qantas has a lot of flight award availability to Darwin. However it is often as low as $400 return so you might as well pay cash and collect the points and status credits.
Fantastic looking holiday. Can’t wait to book it for the family. The fishing will be a great hit with the kids!
I am glad you enjoyed the story…
