Sniip has been around for a couple of years now and is a great way to earn points. I recently had a tx bill I had to pay so decided to give Sniip a test run
In this post:
How Does Sniip Work.
Sniip acts as a credit card merchant to help you pay BPAY bills. This means they pay a BPAY bill for you when a biller does not accept credit cards or the points earn is low such as the ATO. While there are a lot of high value merchants e.g. rent and ATO there are a number of bills that Sniip won’t pay including credit cards and margin loans.
You will need to download the app from the Android or Apple App store and register. It’s very intuitive and easy to use. Sniip even lets you schedule the bill you want to pay.
Can I Use An American Express Card For BPAY
American Express is not a member of the BPAY scheme and as a result BPAY bills cannot be paid from an American Express Credit Card. For a small fee Sniip acts as an intermediary allowing you to pay BPAY bills from your credit card..
How Can I Earn Frequent Flyer Points When Paying The ATO
Last year I paid my taxes using a credit card as an experiment to see if I got any points. I had to pay an ATO 1.45% fee for a measly .5 point per dollar earn rate. The Sniip Fee is comparable to the ATO and lets you accrue points at your card’s top rate.. On my Qantas Ultimate card the earn rate is 1.25 points per dollar spent.
How Much Does Sniip Cost
Sniip charges 1.5% to process an Amex transaction. I used Sniip to pay an ATO bill of $3,697.15 and was charged $55.46. I hope it’s a tax deductible expense!
In return I received 4,691 points at a cost of 1.18c per point. This is more than the 1c per point I would usually pay but much better than the 2.85c per point if I used the ATO site!.
To put this in perspective, Qantas were recently selling points at 1.7c per point.
When Would You Use Sniip?
Sniip is a great way to collect points for a BPAY merchant that does not normally accept credit cards and you are looking to boost your points balance. They would need to be high value payments such as paying your tax,, business expenses or paying a year’s rent up front.
Sniip is ideal for anyone with a high transaction earn rate on their card.
